PolyField by KACPH

In order to improve the accessibility of technology for grass roots athletics, there was a need for a simple to use application agnostic of any set provider and designed with accessibility principles in mind. PolyField is designed and implemented by members of Kingston Athletic Club and Polytechnic Harriers (KACPH) to meet this need. Our ethos is to create a supporting aid for officials, reducing the barriers to technology and improving the athlete, spectator AND officials experience.

A key principle of our app is to demistify the calibration of an Electronic Distance Measurement (EDM). For both throws and horizontal jumps we have created a simple wizard type walk through with every step explained.

Set Centre

For throws you first set the centre of the circle.

Place the EDM prism in the centre of the circle (or 8m point for Javelin).

Click Set Centre.

Verify Edge

You then verify the edge of the circle by placing the EDM prism on the edge of the circle and clicking Verify Edge to measure.

Pass Feedback

PolyField will compare your readings for centre and edge with World Athletics rulings, giving a simple to read PASS or FAIL.

There is further information for the exact measured radius of the circle and deviation from rule book perfection.

As long as you have a pass, you are good by the rules!

Sector Check Mark

Verify against a known point in the sector. If you use the right hand sector line for this as suggested, we can generate the heatmap of athlete landings within the sector.

This is a sanity check that what you have done is all correct.

Calibrate Boards

For long jump and triple jump you can add boards and calibrate with just two measurements per board.

Select the board type (LJ, 7m, 9m, 11m, 13m)

Measure the left edge.

Measure the right edge.

Use the optional check point measurement to a known distance if you wish to.

Add additional boards as you require.

No EDM?

You can manually input the distance of the jumps for each attempt whilst still measuring the wind and uploading to the server.

Polyfield automatically handles the order of athletes, round progressions, board changes, height progressions and will even automatically cut and reorder athletes for you.

There are helpful pop-ups through the competition to assist you with keeping track as an official and notify when board changes or rounds are changing.

Round changes

Between each round you will see this pop-up to highlight that a round is complete.

The same pop-up will also notify "Board Change" for tiple jump where a board swap is required to progress the round.

"The Cut" LJ/TJ

Automatic progression of finalists to complete rounds 4,5,6 can be performed by selecting the number of finalists e.g. top 8.

You can also select athletes manually if you wish to override this.

"The Cut" Throws

Automatic progression of finalists to complete rounds 4,5,6 can be performed by selecting the number of finalists e.g. top 8.

Athletes can be reordered to WA rules.

If multiple age groups are combined into a single competition, you can apply the cut to each age group separately.

You can also select athletes manually if you wish to override this.

Height Progression

Automatic progression of configued height sequences or manual entry of changed heights will notify via pop-up.
